Gold Rate Today in Qatar
The live table shows the gold rate in Qatar in Qatari riyals per gram for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K, plus tola and ounce weights. It is the world price at the fixed riyal rate; Qatar has no VAT, so jewellers add only their premium and making charge.

International parity from XAUUSD × USD/QAR (the riyal is pegged at 3.64 per dollar). Shop premiums and making charges are extra. How we calculate
How gold is priced in Qatar
The Qatari riyal is pegged to the US dollar at 3.64, so the riyal gold price moves exactly with the dollar price. Doha jewellers post per-gram rates for each karat each day, close to the parity values above with a small margin, and update them when the international market moves sharply. One riyal is 100 dirhams, and rates are normally shown to two decimal places.
No VAT
Qatar has not introduced value added tax, so gold jewellery, bars and coins are sold without the 5% VAT charged in the UAE and Oman, the 10% in Bahrain or the 15% in Saudi Arabia. For finished jewellery, where VAT elsewhere applies to the whole price including making charges, this can make Qatar noticeably cheaper than its neighbours for the same design and weight. There is also no sales tax on bars, so the price you pay is the gold value, the dealer's premium and, for jewellery, the making charge.
Karats and buyers
| Karat | Gold content | Main buyers |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 99.9% | Investors, buyers of tola and 10-tola bars |
| 22K | 91.6% | South Asian residents, wedding jewellery |
| 21K | 87.5% | Qatari and Arab families, bridal sets |
| 18K | 75% | Diamond and designer jewellery |
Qatar's large South Asian workforce makes 22K and the 10-tola bar important parts of the market, alongside the 21K preferred by Qatari families for wedding gifts and bridal jewellery. The karat purity calculator converts values between karats.
Worked example
Illustrative only. Suppose the 22K rate is QAR 445.00 per gram and the jeweller charges QAR 12 per gram for making.
| Item | Calculation | QAR |
|---|---|---|
| 22K chain, 15 g | 15 × 445.00 | 6,675.00 |
| Making charge | 15 × 12.00 | 180.00 |
| VAT | none in Qatar | 0.00 |
| Total | 6,855.00 |
In a market with 5% VAT the same chain at the same rate and making charge would cost QAR 342.75 more. Try other weights with the jewellery price calculator.
Comparing Qatar with prices back home
Many residents compare Doha prices with their home market before buying. The gold value in the table is international parity with nothing added, while in India, for example, the rate includes 6% import duty and jewellery then carries 3% GST. In Pakistan and Bangladesh the local association rate can sit above parity. A like-for-like comparison converts both prices to the same currency, the same karat and the same weight, then adds each market's making charges and taxes. Customs duty on arrival can erase the saving if you carry more than your home country's passenger allowance, so check the rules first. See the India, Pakistan and Bangladesh pages for those markets.
Selling gold in Qatar
Doha jewellers buy back gold at the day's rate for the karat less a deduction, and they do not refund the making charge. The deduction is usually smaller if you exchange for a new piece. Bars from known refiners in original packaging are the easiest to sell close to the gold value.
Where to buy in Doha
Doha's Gold Souq, beside Souq Waqif in the old centre, is the traditional market, with rows of jewellers selling Arab, Indian and contemporary designs. Large malls house branches of regional and international jewellery chains, and some exchange houses and jewellers sell bars and coins. As in other Gulf markets, the gold rate is close between shops; making charges and design choice make the difference, and the making charge is often open to negotiation.
Checklist
- Compare the shop's rate for your karat with the parity figure above.
- Agree the making charge per gram before weighing.
- Ask for an invoice with karat, weight, rate and making charge.
- For bars, check the refiner's stamp, weight and purity.
- Check customs rules in your home country if you will carry the gold abroad.
