18K Gold Price Today
18K gold is 75% pure, so it is worth three quarters of the 24K price. The live tables below show 18K gold per gram, per 10 grams, per troy ounce and per pennyweight in US dollars, plus one gram of 18K in eight currencies, before any premium, tax or making charge.

What 18K and 750 mean
18 karat gold is 18 parts gold in 24, exactly 75%, stamped 750. The other 25% is chosen to set the colour and hardness, which is why 18K comes in more varieties than any other karat. The gold value is the same in every colour: 75% of the weight, priced at the 24K rate.
Yellow, white and rose 18K
| Colour | Typical alloy (25%) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Silver and copper | Closest to the colour of higher karats |
| White | Palladium or nickel, with silver/copper | Usually rhodium-plated for a bright white finish; plating wears and needs renewing every few years |
| Rose / pink | Mostly copper | Very durable; colour deepens with more copper |
Nickel white gold can irritate sensitive skin, and some jurisdictions restrict nickel release in jewellery, so palladium white gold is common in Europe. Ask which alloy you are getting if allergy is a concern.
Hallmarks
- India: BIS logo, 18K750 and a HUID code, the standard grade for diamond jewellery sold in India.
- UK and much of Europe: 750 within a legal hallmark; Italian pieces often also carry a maker's registration number.
- United States: 18K or 18KT, or 750, with a maker's trademark.

Every row is international parity: the live gold price converted at the live exchange rate and multiplied by the purity factor. The India row excludes the 6% import duty and 3% GST; local market and jeweller rates in India, Pakistan and the Gulf usually sit somewhat above parity.
Durability and uses
At 75% gold, 18K is hard enough to grip diamonds in thin claws and to survive daily wear in rings, while still looking and feeling like fine gold. It is the standard for engagement rings in much of Europe, for high-end watches and for diamond jewellery in India and the Gulf. Italy, France and Switzerland use 18K as their main jewellery standard; in the US it sits above the mass-market 14K.
How to price an 18K ring: worked example
Suppose 24K gold is US$133.00 per gram (illustrative) and a diamond ring has 4.2 g of 18K metal.
| Step | Calculation | Amount (US$) |
|---|---|---|
| 18K price per gram | $133.00 × 0.75 | 99.75 |
| Metal value | 4.2 g × $99.75 | 418.95 |
The metal is often a minority of the price of a diamond ring: the stones, setting labour, design and brand make up the rest. When comparing quotes, ask for the net gold weight separately from the stone weight. In carats, stones are measured at 0.2 g per carat, so a 1-carat diamond adds 0.2 g to the gross weight. The gold calculator gives the metal value for any weight.
18K or 14K for a US or European ring
For the same design and weight, an 18K ring contains 28% more gold than a 14K ring (0.75 ÷ 0.585 = 1.282), so its metal value is 28% higher. 18K looks richer and is less likely to cause skin reactions; 14K is harder and shows fewer scratches. In the US, 14K is the default and 18K is the premium option; in Italy and France, and for diamond jewellery in India and the Gulf, 18K is the default. Platinum is sometimes offered as an alternative, but it is priced on its own market, not on the gold price.
Weights also differ between metals: 18K is denser than 14K, so a ring cast from the same model weighs a little more in 18K, adding further to the metal cost.
Resale considerations
A gold buyer pays for the 75% gold content only. Diamonds are valued separately (if at all) and at well below retail, and white-gold rhodium plating, design and brand add nothing at melt. Jewellers that sold you the piece may offer exchange terms based on the current 18K rate; check their buy-back policy before purchase. For an estimate of a melt offer, use the scrap gold calculator.
